The Professional Massage Therapy Program is a 637-hour program. It includes an
in-depth study of Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage and Myofascial Release
Techniques as well as additional related modalities that add impact to the
training. The student's study will include: anatomy & physiology, body
movement in relation to body mechanics, expansion of the mind/body relationship,
business building and ethics & professionalism.
They are also required to do
Student Clinic, and encouraged to participate in Community Outreach. The entire
program is designed to refine the students' sense of touch [for palpation
skills] and to synthesize all of the program elements. In this way, graduates
will have obtained the skills and tools necessary to become professional
qualified practitioners. |

This program prepares graduates to enter the field of massage therapy as an
entry-level therapist in a variety of professional work settings. After
successful completion of this program students will be eligible to take the
certification exam offered by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic
Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB). |

In the Professional Massage Therapy Program, students learn light-energy work,
as well as structural bodywork modalities, Eastern and Western theory and
technique, how to treat specific pain and dysfunction, as well as a holistic
approach to health and healing. Due to the fact that we are training health care
practitioners, we include CPR and first aid training and certification, and
Anatomy & Physiology, and Pathology in our Professional Massage Therapy
Program curriculum. ASMT not only prepares students to become proficient
bodyworkers but also trains students to become successful in the marketplace,
either as a sole practitioner, an independent contractor, or an employee.
As part of the Professional Massage Therapy Program curriculum, a
student completes a comprehensive professional development course. This course
includes techniques of enrollment, starting and operating a massage therapy
business, presentation, advertising, resume writing, job interviewing skills,
and the integration of sound business practices with a holistic approach to
health care. Students participate in the clinical internship, which provides
them with on-the-job training in preparation for working professionally. |

National American University's diploma program in therapeutic massage offers a well-rounded curriculum
with an excellent balance between lectures and experiential courses. With a
solid grounding in anatomy and physiology of the human body, this program is
strong on the basics, and it gives students optimal opportunities to develop
their 'touch' skills.
Best of all, this program gets students out into the
working world quickly, because it is designed to be completed in as little as 12
months if attending classes full-time. After that, students can continue on part
time to earn NAU's AAS degree in massage therapy, while they're already enjoying
a career in therapeutic massage. |
