In this program students will become familiar with the history of massage,
safety practices, massage equipment use, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology,
pharmacology pathology, body mechanics, medical terminology, Indications and
Contraindications of Massage Therapy. Students will also be taught
professionalism in the work place as well as the basics for starting a small
business, creating a business plan and sources of financial support.
Upon
successful completion, students may apply to the Oklahoma Department of Health
Services for licensure and eligibility to take the national exam for
Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Successful graduates will
have the skills and knowledge to attain entry-level positions in chiropractic
offices, health clubs, spas and resorts, or beauty salons. They may also open
their own massage therapy businesses.
