Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant

Brown Mackie College  The Occupational Therapy Assistant program prepares graduates for entry-level employment, working under the direction of an occupational therapist. Students are trained to administer occupational therapy treatments to individuals who have lost functional abilities due to illness, injury, or disease.

Coursework combines lecture, laboratory, and clinical experiences. General Education elements of the program enhance students' communication and problem-solving skills to enhance their effectiveness in the occupational therapy profession. The program prepares the graduate for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Certification Examination for Occupational Therapy Assistants. Students develop a solid foundation in occupational therapy, including: Anatomy and physiology Medical terminology Structural kinesiology Neurological dysfunction Mental health concepts and techniques Assessment of function Adaptive living skills Physical rehabilitation Entry-level Employment Opportunities Hospitals Offices of Health Practitioners Offices of Occupational Therapists Nursing Care Facilities Community Care Facilities Home Healthcare Services.
