Surgical Technologist is a 45-week program offered at the Provo Campus. This
program enables students to assist in surgical operations and procedures under
the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.
Surgical Technologists prepare the operating room by assembling surgical
equipment and instrumentation. They transport patients, assist with positioning,
calculate blood loss, care for specimens, sterilize equipment, pass
instrumentation, and aid the surgeon in retraction and visualization of the
surgical field.
The Surgical Technologist program is 45.5 semester hours
in length. It includes 657 hours of lecture and lab instruction followed by an
externship of 540 hours with experience in the OR's of various surgical sites.
